Sola Hope Fellowship Growth Groups
What is a growth group? We could just as easily call these groups “places of sanctification where we enjoy God while we learn to deny ourselves, confess our sin, love righteousness, pursue holiness and develop meaningful relationships with others all for the purpose of glorifying God so that Jesus will be seen to be the Hero that He truly is.” In other words, these groups are designed so that we grow. Grow to become more like Jesus. Grow in our love for Him and love for others. Grow in our knowledge of God and in the practical application of these truths in our everyday lives. Grow in our passion for sharing the good news of the gospel. Grow in our awareness of others needs and how we might help meet those needs in tangible ways. At SHF, we believe the best way that Christ is formed in us is through consistent, intentional, God-glorifying relationships with each other. It is in the context of these relationships where we can practically apply the gospel as we learn to love Jesus and love others. What this means is that in making a commitment to a SHF growth group, you are acknowledging at least two things to be true. First, you desire to grow and to become more like Jesus in character, conduct and conviction. Second, you know you cannot do this alone and understand that you need the family of God – other brothers and sisters – in order to help and encourage this kind of godly growth.
At SHF, we are not a church that merely has growth groups. We are a church that seeks to be built around growth groups. As such, we have 3 key goals for every growth group: progressive sanctification, mutual care, and fellowship.
Progressive sanctification: Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we seek to grow more and more to reflect the holy character of Jesus Christ in our lives. While this sanctification process is never fully complete this side of heaven, as believers in Jesus Christ we have the privilege of participating in how God is transforming us from the inside out.
Mutual Care: Does anybody really know you? Or do most people know just a few things about you? Our growth groups provide an environment where we can both give and receive spiritual care. They are a place where we both share and carry specific burdens and where we can pray for others and be prayed for ourselves. The Christian life is not a solitary existence; it is inescapably corporate. Growth groups provide a wonderful opportunity to “do life together.”
Fellowship: The basis for our partnership in the gospel (our fellowship) is not the coffee we drink or the sports we enjoy talking about with each other. Our fellowship is grounded in our relationship with God. When we meet together in growth groups, this partnership is strengthened, our own hearts encouraged and the gospel is advanced.
